RORY
GALLAGHER - 1948 - 1995
Born on March 2, 1948 in Ballyshannon, County Donegal,
Rory Gallagher spent much of his youth in the city of
Cork. From his early days with the Fontana Showband,
he was at the forefront of the Irish rock movement impressing
many as an inventive singer-songwriter and gifted guitarist.
Gallagher formed the trio Taste in
1966, the best known line-up following in 1968 with
the new Northem Irish members, bassist Richard (aka
Charlie) McCraken and drummer John Wilson. They moved
to London, where Rory was based from then on, and released
two studio albums, Taste and On The Boards.

as many live recordings and compilations, the most notable
being his live 1974 Irish Tour album. He toured worldwide
with his famous old Stratocaster and an ever-changing
backline, right up to the end of 1994 when his health
began to fail.
Sadly Rory died in London at the early age of 47, on
